Age policies on joining

The majority of IVC Clubs do not operate a maximum joining or membership age policy. However, all prospective members of IVC must be over the age of 18 at the time of joining due to the need to comply with licencing laws at events on licenced premises.

Some of our long standing Clubs with a higher average age profile have sometimes felt the need to bring in a temporary maximum joining age of around 40. This is done reluctantly to try and encourage more younger members to join and so re-balance the age profile of the Club.

If you are concerned about this, please ask the Secretary of the Club you are interested in whether such a policy is presently operating. The IVC is always interested in encouraging applications from people who are natural, active organisers. If you are willing to make a positive contribution to the Club programme, then it can still be worth your while applying for membership.

The matter of age of entry policy is entirely a matter for the members of a Club to decide at their Annual General Meeting. The AIVC Committee has no authority to influence any Club in these policy decisions.
