2015 AGM & Conference Review
Sara Davis Cambridgeshire IVC & aIVC Publicity officer reveiws the 2015 AGM & conference for us.
 
The 2015 AGM & Conference was very kindly organised by Hilary Brown and Birmingham IVC. The venue was the Hilton Garden Inn which provided good conference facilities with great food and very friendly staff. It was also very conveniently situated in the centre of Birmingham within easy walking distance of many local attractions, the canals and shops.  
 
Many delegates arrived Friday afternoon and evening and were greeted by a friendly team of Birmingham IVC volunteers. After a substantial supper we had a short walk to The Fiddle and Bone (as in trombone) for an evening of lively music and a few drinks. Some of us, lacking the embarrassment gene, took to the dance floor..............well on reflection, there wasn't actually a dance floor, but that certainly wasn't going to deter us serious dancers. Others just appreciated the music in their own way and some found a quieter area to chat to old friends or make new ones. It was a fantastic evening and thanks to Pete Howe who organised it.
 
Saturday morning after breakfast, it was down to business. This went well and having been to a number of conferences over the last few years, the thing that struck me most was the pervading positive attitude of the delegates. Everyone there, seemed passionate about IVC and wanted to do what is best for the club. They also were very appreciative of all the work done by the committee, especially by Hilary Brown, the chair, who spent huge amounts of time during the year, updating various club documents. Delegates also thought the regional meetings had been very successful. There were a lot of motions this year and all were discussed at length before being voted on and the outcome which will be published in the AGM minutes.
 After lunch we split into different groups to explore Birmingham, the centre of the universe! Our hosts Birmingham IVC laid on a range of activities to suit all tastes from walks and cycle rides along the canals, to a visits to the Staffordshire Hoard, some modern art, the jewellery quarter, the Back to Backs and of course the option of a little retail therapy. It really is an amazing city, which manages to mix to old and the new to good effect. It also has a fantastic network of canals which has shaped the development of the city...........if you've never been to Birmingham, you should definitely put it on your bucket list.

After a busy afternoon it was back to the hotel to don our glad rags for the dinner and dance at the hotel. Again an excellent evening was had by all, with good food, great company and dancing 'til Sunday morning it was back down to business again. This time there was the review of the accounts for 2014-2015 as well as the proposal of the budget for 2015-2016, and because of the variable date of the next conference, the proposed budget for 2016-2017 was also agreed with a levy of £3.50 per person agreed for both years. The new AIVC committee was appointed, the officers being:

The final business of the morning was to introduce Ivy Chicken............our latest member who hopes to meet many of our IVC members and clubs over the course of the coming year.
