AIVC Regional Meeting Bristol

Toto's in BristolAt the last AGM, some members indicated that it may a good idea to look at the current structure of AIVC, and also to see if there was any way of reducing the AIVC levy. In order to obtain feedback before the next AIVC AGM, it was agreed to hold regional meetings to give members and clubs input into these issues. Bob Clifford created a new website aivcfuture.agoria.co.uk to provide information and questions about possible changes and to give feedback.

The first AIVC regional meeting, was very kindly hosted and organised by Bristol and Bath IVC (BBIVC).  It was held at Totos wine bar by the river,  with 40 members from 11 different clubs attending, an excellent turnout.

All members had a questionnaire covering the questions outlined on the aivcfuture website so they could provide feedback and discuss issues informally during lunch. After lunch the main meeting started and the issues of the structure of AIVC and ways of possibly reducing the levy were discussed. As the annual AGM is the main expenditure, much discussion focused around different ways of reducing this cost, and thereby reducing the AIVC levy. The AIVC levy is the cost per person for clubs to belong to AIVC and it provides clubs with insurance and also facilitates the sharing of IVC events between clubs.  As you might expect there were very mixed views, however most members seemed to express the view that the current levy was reasonable, less than the cost of a pint.

Turtle Bay Caribbean Meal
There was some frustration that the 2 hour meeting time was taken up with discussion around these issues and some people said they found it a negative experience and would rather have discussed issues like Meetup and websites, or other matters raised by members. In view of this the committee is looking to change the format of the next meeting, whilst still providing members the opportunity to discuss issues from the original agenda.

BBIVC continued their hospitality after the meeting with meals arranged at 2 very different venues. I joined the group at Turtle Bay, a lively Caribbean restaurant with excellent food. After that, we joined up again to visit some of the local hostelries. Thank you BBIVC for all your hard work and an excellent day.
