SUMMARY
Vulnerability identification is critical defensive security infrastructure. We have Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) improving scope and coverage, but CVE assigns numbers to issues and people like words. From Heartbleed to Efail, there's a trend in security research to market disclosure events with catchy brand names. Some are annoyed by this trend. Is annoyance justified?

Names imply importance. Is the claimed importance justified? It may be that a more human-oriented handle is beneficial. We'll look at the issues around named vulnerabilities and present a system to generate names separate from implied importance.

SPEAKER
Leigh has 30 years experience in STEM, with expertise in Mathematics and Cybersecurity. In mathematics she has a PhD from Auburn University specializing in Algebraic Topology. She has spent many years working with technology companies, from startups to established businesses, and now uses all that she learned at those companies to work for a Federally Funded Research and Development Center at Caernegie Mellon University researching Cybersecurity.

She is the primary author of Cybersecurity and Applied Mathematics, a contributor to a second book on preparation on Cybersecurity, and is the co-Editor-in-Chief of a new academic journal (ACM Digital Threats: Research and Practice) from an original idea she had and saw through to fruition. She writes open source software, talks, and writes papers.
