BNHIVC - Bob's Birthday Battle Proms Concert at Highclere, Newbury
Come and join with BNHIVC and help Bob celebrate his birthday at the Battle Proms Concert at Highclere Castle with ground-shaking, breathtaking pyrotechnics and displays, and be treated to a superb array of classical music guaranteed to make you wave your flags, sing out loud and even waltz under the stars! Tickets for this superbly entertaining evening are £30.00 before Sat 31st July and £35 on the day (subject to availability). The tickets usually sell out quickly ... so make sure you book with Bob as soon as possible. Advance group bookings of 10 or more qualify for a £2 reduction per ticket.

The gates open at 4.30pm which is about the time we expect to arrive to find a good spot. We will arrange for everyone to contribute something towards the picnic before the music starts. Full details of the evenings entertainment can be found on the web site at:

http://www.battleproms.com/Highclere-Castle-31-July-2010

Before the afternoon’s entertainment begins, there’s time to enjoy all the fun of the traditional fairground stalls and visit the fascinating Napoleonic encampment. While you settle down to enjoy your picnic, you will be entertained by the lively jazz band Cambridge Jazz Co.

The historic rumble of the Spitfire engine will accompany the beautiful opening pieces of the musical programme, as a meticulously choreographed aerial display is executed in the skies over the concert arena. In true Battle Proms style, the evening continues with a wealth of triumphal classics performed by the New English Concert Orchestra, joined by our superb soprano soloist Denise Leigh for an enchanting selection of arias and operettas.

EDINBURGH FESTIVAL
EDINBURGH FESTIVAL – August 19th- 23rd. (4 nights)

If you have often thought about doing the Festival – now is the time to give it a try. I have been several times during the last 10 years and the air of excitement within the city during festival time is indescribable, and with so much to do it is hard to choose.(Late night comedy shows, theatre, dance, free street entertainment, visits to the art gallery or book festival). Accommodation prices continue to rise each year, but is available at Pollock Halls student appartments (vacated during the summer and rented out) near Holyrood Park and within a 20 minute walking distance of the city centre. Cost is £43 a night for a single room with shared facilities and a buffet breakfast taken in the dining hall. Cost for 4 nights is £172. If you want to join this event you will need to book and pay for your own accommodation and consider how you will get there. (There are direct flights from Stansted, train or a group may want to drive). You may find it easier to book on line - details as follows.

Seaside Camping
If you need a quick break away from it all, this event is for you! We are planning a weekend of camping and walking near Lymington, just south of the New Forest. Starting on Friday after work, we will head down to Hurst View Caravan Park, Lower Pennington Lane, Pennington, nr Lymington, SO41 8AL, pitch up and have a BBQ. If the evening turns cold we will walk over to The Chequers Inn pub for a drink or three! Saturday we will walk from the campsite along the coast to Milford on Sea. The sea itself is very close to the site and we could detour to visit Hurst Castle during the walk. After we have packed up on Sunday morning we could take a trip to Christchurch, foot-passenger ferry to Yarmouth, go walking in the New Forest or just potter about Lymington (I know a good tea room...). The whole weekend will be very informal so you can choose how much you want to participate in!

Pitches cost £17-£22 depending upon the size of your tent and caravans are also welcome. You can book in advance via www.hurstviewleisure.co.uk or just turn up! Please let me know if you are coming along. If you would like to join us for the Friday night BBQ please bring your own supplies and food. A torch will also be useful for walking to the local pub!
