Communications in the IVC
The AIVC Committee is keen to promote the use of all forms of electronic communications between clubs, members within Clubs and those that are simply interested in finding out more about IVC.
No organisation today, whether they are commercial, non-profit making or a charity, can expect to continue operating without being massively affected by the Internet and the communications revolution. The IVC has so far managed to survive and grow for over 50 years with a minimum of technological assistance. In the new business and entertainment climate created by the Internet, email, mobile telephony and video technologies, it is unlikely the IVC could survive another 50 years if we did not fully embrace what these technologies have to offer.
The AIVC Committee is keen to encourage the following kinds of communications development in member clubs of AIVC:
- Encourage member Clubs to set up their own Internet web sites that provide useful information to members and those simply interested in finding out more about the IVC.
- Encourage the use of email within clubs, between clubs and with the external world to make the Association of IVCs a more open organisation.
- Identify and develop opportunities for the development of all new forms of communications within the AIVC, within Clubs and with the external world.
- Identify and develop opportunities offered by the communications revolution that could give the IVC a significant market advantage over our competitors.
Electronic mail (Email)
Many IVC Clubs are exploring the use of e-mail and email list servers to pass on details of ad hoc events or changes to an advertised event. If your Club offers this service and you have an e-mail account please let the membership secretary know your address.
In order to protect the confidentiality of member email addresses, some Clubs are able send messages seperately to the addressees as a blind carbon copy without the originators email details.
National and Club email discussion groups.
Some Clubs have set up an events and activities discussion group that operates via email for use by members and invited guests. Most of the email discussion groups used by the IVC are operated by a service called YahooGroups. Further information about this service can be found at the web site whose address is given below:
http://www.yahoogroups.com/
Groups in this free email discussion service can be created for public groups, members only groups, and private invited guests only groups. Many IVCs have created their own groups on this service to promote and discuss all manner of matters including events and activities.
If a member decides to promote an event arranged through this email service on the same date and time as one published in their clubs bulletin, we encourage them to ensure you have sought agreement for the event with the host(s) of the concurrent bulletin event(s). Members should also ensure they have informed the Activities Officer of the intention to promote event.
