2014 A Personal Opinion on AIVC Reorganisation by Bob Clifford

IMPORTANT:   The following is a personal opinion of Bob Clifford, the current AIVC Development Officer, and should not be taken as in any way as being representative of the policies of the AIVC Committee.

I believe it is important we make it clear these gatherings have not been organised and paid for by AIVC to be simply used as just general talking shops.  Some solid proposals that can be voted on next year need to come out of the gatherings that both reduce the general cost of AIVC while at the same time improving its general effectiveness ... even if they are simple tweaks to the way we do things.

My understanding of the changes that AIVC could make that are not too controversial are the following:

AIVC ORGANISATION:
We will get more done if more NON-COMMITTEE people from the clubs can be encouraged to get involved ...

My suggestions would be as below ... though others may feel differently about this:

- CLUB LIAISON      - Get this done on a regional basis by non-committee people ... better to have 3-4 people looking after 10-15 clubs each than one person dealing with 41 clubs
- DEVELOPMENT     - Merge this role with Publicity ... the two jobs are too closely related to justify being separate roles
- PUBLICITY           - Merge this role with Development ... as above

I think we could make much better use of Club Liaison if this was split across a few regional non-committee people whose primary objectives were the following:

1.  to maintain contact with clubs (as currently) in their area and encourage news reporting for the AIVC News Officer
2.  encourage the organisation of inter-club events both within a region and nationally to the AIVC Events Officer by clubs
3.  report on any clubs with problems to AIVC Committee and act as first line development and publicity support for the AIVC Publicity/Development Officer(s)

I believe Club Liaison could be much more effective in terms of helping with news and inter-club event gathering and distribution.

However to achieve this, it will need more people involved and has to be seen as a task that primarily supports the roles of the News and Events Officers.  Perhaps this way we might also get to hear about clubs that are in trouble sooner so something can be done about it!

REDUCE CONFERENCE COSTS:
1.  Make all Conference subsidies to clubs (travel, conference and small club subsidy) applicable to the first delegate only.
2.  Move first session of Conference from Saturday morning to the afternoon
3.  AIVC Officers required to pay some contribution to the Conference weekend (even if only for the Saturday night social event)
4.  Reduce the number of AIVC officers as above and make more use of non-committee people from clubs.

These are my thoughts ... so what do others think?
