Rachel Fletcher, Leeds - Some Thoughts on Web Use & Conference
Dear AIVC Committee,

Many thanks for putting on the York Regional Gathering. I think it was great to give some of our members who have not been/are not able to go to Conference a taster of what AIVC Conference is like and a good opportunity to get together with other IVC’s. I think the powerpoint presentations especially were excellent and it is great they are online for all to see.

Below I have some thoughts I wish to share either just with you or I am happy to have below as an article in the next Newslines if appropriate/space.

All the best, Rachel Fletcher (Leeds IVC Webmaster & Acting ALO)

Some Thoughts on Web Use & Conference
Whilst  I see AIVC Conference and meetings/get togethers as a good way to share ideas/best practice especially in the past when there was no or little internet, my view is that more sharing re. ideas and best practice is/could be done online these days with the AIVC website and the ability to have discussion forums and online presentations. As well as saving time at Conference this would potentially have a bigger audience online available to all clubs not just those able to send delegates to the Conference. Also having presentations and discussions online (either by written presentations/forums or face to face video presentations/video conferences) would also hopefully minimise the re-inventing the wheel of the same issues arising as previous presentations/discussions would be available online to be viewed commented on and added to.

Thus I feel the formal business part of the Conference weekend could be minimised more to the absolute essentials (the AGM) and also maybe more of this could be discussed/voted online. General issues (e.g. like the Meetup presentation at the York meeting) could then be down as optional discussions/workshops (focussed on those most interested) either at the same weekend or other dedicated day/weekends (or online, so all can share).

I feel possible useful topics for a online discussions/presentations could be topics such as  ‘Meetup’, ‘Web Pubilicity Generally’, ‘Website Design’ ‘Activity Exchange’ ‘WordPress’, discussing and sharing experiences. These may also be usefully extended into practical day/weekend workshops sharing knowledge if the opportunity/demand arises.
