You are invited to this month's Sussex Universe talk, by Sussex University. The talk will be given by Prof. Maziar Nekovee on the subject of "Where are we with 5G and AI, and what may come next?".

Maziar’s talk will premiere at 7pm on Thursday 22 April and be followed by Zoom Q&A at ~7.30pm.

5G, the new generation of mobile communication systems, promise to expand the applications of mobile communications to entirely new and previously unimagined industries” such as self-driving cars, smart cities, industry 4.0, remote robotic surgery, smart agriculture, and smart energy grids.

Breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), including deep neural networks and probability models, are creating paths for computing technology to perform tasks that once seemed out of reach. The focus of this lecture is to summarise and illustrate, with examples from our own and others research, the current state of these two disruptive technologies.

Casting our mind a decade ahead, we look at the clash of this disruptive technologies and how this may unleash as-yet-unrealized capabilities and technology solutions to meet the key challenges of our societies in 2030.
